Economic Recession : Obiano urges Nigerians to invest in agriculture



Nigerians have been urged to invest heavily in agriculture as a panacea to the economic recession in the country.

This was stated by the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano during his visit to St Mary’s Catholic Parish, Nnokwa, Idemili South Local government Area of the state, for the maiden pastoral visit of the Auxiliary Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Onitsha, His Lordship, Most Rev Denis Chidi Isizoh.

Governor Obiano regretted that the present economic hardship had caused more pains to Nigerians and contributed to the increase in social vices.

The Governor stated that Anambra State had mapped out several stimulus packages to ameliorate the sufferings of Ndi Anambra and give them more hope of livelihood.

The state governor stressed that his administration had created windows of opportunities to boost the economic strength of the state, through attraction of foreign investors and individual developers.

He maintained that apart from other commercial farms in the state, Cosharis Farm in Anaku had employed over 250 workers across the state.

Governor Obiano also stated that the state had engaged in exportation of pumpkin leaves in the United Kingdom and had currently obtained license to extend the exportation to the United States of America.

He further revealed that regardless of economic crisis in the country, the state government had doled out N20 million per community in Anambra State for community development.

In his homily, the Auxiliary Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Onitsha, His Lordship, Most Rev Denis Chidi Isizoh charged Christians to express their magnanimity through different gifts of Holy Spirit endowed with them and amend their ways in preparation for the coming of Christ.

While admonishing newly confirmed candidates to preach Christ through their behaviour , Bishop Isizoh reminded them that the sacrament of confirmation had transformed them into full soldiers of Christ.

The Bishop described Governor Obiano as people’s governor and commended him for his administrative blueprint which he is using in piloting the affairs of the State.

The highpoints of the event was administration of 255 candidates with the sacrament of confirmation.
