Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has been lauded for his concern for the welfare of the less privileged following the recent suspension by the state government of certain categories of taxes and levies paid by tricycle (Keke) and motorcycle (Okada) operators in the state.
Comrade Ferguson Okpara, who is the National President of Non-indigenes Association in Anambra State said by granting the tax reliefs, Governor Obiano has demonstrated that he listened to the yearnings of the Non-indigenes in the state who are predominantly artisans.
He said that most Okada and Keke operators in the state as well as those who do odd jobs in the state were non-indigenes who feel the impact of the levies hitherto imposed on them.
“But by this action, it shows that the Governor listens whenever there is a genuine issue presented to him, considering the prevailing situation in the country” said the Comrade.
Okpara who spoke during the inauguration of Ogbaru branch of the association, said that it was necessary for members of the association to always come together to discuss issues of common interest.
The president added that coming together will not only enable members of the association to share experiences but also to find common solutions to their needs. He disclosed that the association will organize skill acquisition programme for some of their members especially the youths among them so that they can have viable and meaningful means of livelihood.
